Ive worked my nads  off this summer ! Its been amazing, exhausting, exciting, funny, sad, easy , hard, humorous, serious and a whole lot more.  Now I have a van that needs a service. Ive spent a grand on the traior  repairs and tyres  this week and the Suzuki DF 150 is just about ready for its 400 hour service. The ironic twist of the knife is that come October the mother load of Bass start to arrive in West Cornwall and the punters...

Its the halfway point in the season for me , or at least the main season , time for a report on what’s been going on. After the trauma of 2012 both financially and climatically 2013 is a dream come true.  The fishing has been excellent . This joyous Summer has made everything make sense . June started slowly , the water temperatures stubbornly remained low. Any fish we landed were all falling to winter tactics, Paddle tails in...

I have been saltwater Fly fishing on the Camel Estuary for several years now. Its a unique place and I am still haunted and bothered by the memory  a very large Bass I hooked and lost on the fly there on my first ever visit. This fish was hooked and swam straight towards the boat. If I had the landing net to hand I could have scooped it up, but alas this fish just came along side the boat turned and the fly fell simply out of her...

Well at last they are here and they are amazingly well tied. . The guys at Fulling Mill asked me 18 months ago to  provide  a selection of my favourite Bass Fly Patterns.I have fine tuned my flies over the years .  Too many options leads to more time spent gazing into  a fly box or hoping that a change of fly will make fish appear out of nowhere. I like a simple life and a fly that I have confidence in based on my experiences  on the...

They say a picture can say a thousand  words. Well this was taken by Matt Spence during his post christmas break . Apparantly this blitz happened daily for  a whole week !! The sprats come through west cornwall in vast shoals and the blitzing starts. This time of year you have to try to drop eveything , grab the gear and go fishing as soon as the weather breaks. The baitfish shoals are here. The Bass are shoaling up ready to spawn ....

Its an ironic twist that the year I invest so much heart soul and hard currency into the boat and  guiding that I get hit with endless  wind and rain and  fewer numbers of fish . Things are certainly getting better all the time. More fish and bigger fish turning up.  It should just get better and better from this point forward . I bloody hope so !  I will now head out to sea with a great sense of anticipation. Check out this...
